Mrs. Harris’ second grade classroom just had a space lift. Earlier this month, students walked into a redesigned classroom with a variety of more collaborative, flexible seating arrangements. The new “flexible seating classroom” is a newer trend in education that Mrs. Harris wanted to implement. Replacing traditional desks with tables, work stations, couches, yoga mats and rocking seats, the new space gives students a choice of what learning space works best for them, providing for more movement throughout the day. Research suggests increased movement throughout the day is linked to higher academic performance and improved behavior. Flexible classrooms are more conducive to collaboration, motivation, creativity and critical thinking. “So far the feedback from students and parents has been all positive," says Mrs. Harris. "It’s been an exciting change for all of us.”

Award-winning children's author and illustrator, Michael Hall, visited students at Carondelet's Lower Campus on Wednesday, October 12. Hall will read from his beautifully illustrated new book, Wonderfall. This beautiful and informative picture book follows a single tree through the fall season, from the end of summer to winter's first snowfall. A great read-aloud for home and the classroom by the New York Times bestselling creator of My Heart Is Like a Zooand Red: A Crayon's Story. The event is made possible through Carondelet's partnership with the Wild Rumpus Bookstore.
