Middle School iPad One-to-One Program

Research indicates that students gain higher levels of achievement through interactive, technology-based education. In addition to a full Mac-based computer lab, interactive Smart Boards, and mobile ChromeBook carts, Carondelet utilizes a one-to-one iPad program for all Carondelet middle school students in grades 6-8.

“The iPads offer more content, more knowledge, and more interactive applications than traditional textbook alone. The applications for learning are both exciting and endless,” says Principal Sue Kerr. The program will also include curriculum for digital citizenship.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why a 1:1 program?   A 1:1 device program encourages higher level thinking skills, problem solving, and creativity.  We will be exposing them to many learning resources and tools in a safe environment with the support they need to be responsible digital citizens.

Can I supply my own iPad? Carondelet's iPads are issued by the school. By having all students using the same device, we not only provide an equitable opportunity for the students, but we also ensure that all of the devices can be managed and maintained effectively and responsibly.

How will we encourage responsible use?   We feel that exposing students to technology and guiding them to use it for good (and to recognize when it is not good) is part of a whole education.  We teach students responsible use of technology, and expect them to follow our policies enforced by all of the middle school faculty.  The kids are also required to take a digital citizenship class to encourage good stewardship of technology and responsible use.  We offer support and education for both students and parents to ensure the tools are used appropriately.

Will the K-5 students use iPads? The K-5 students will not have their own devices, but will be utilizing them as one of many classroom resources.  They will be useful for extra math, literacy centers, the creation of multimedia projects, research, etc.
